Despite Canada’s recognition of palliative care, access remains limited, with less than half of those in need receiving services due to provincial disparities in home care programs and funding. A study in Victoria, BC, highlighted the challenges “structurally vulnerable” individuals face and the importance of reducing their suffering and isolation. Home care providers play a crucial role in offering equitable and culturally sensitive care, especially to underserved communities, minority groups, and economically disadvantaged populations.
This ECHO learning session will address barriers, share recommendations for improving access, and showcase BC’s Palliative Outreach Resource Team (PORT) through a case study.
