Luís Fernando Rodrigues, MD, MAHR Palliative Care
Panelist – Brazil
Dr. Luís Fernando Rodrigues leads the palliative care unit at the Barretos Cancer Hospital in São Paulo, Brazil. He graduated from UEL, holds a master’s degree in palliative care from Lancaster University, and is pursuing a doctorate in public health. Initially trained in internal medicine and gastroenterology, he later specialized in palliative care through PALLIUM Latin America. As a founding member and former vice president of the ANCP, he currently serves as the secretary of its public policy committee and coordinates the ECHO HUB at the Barretos Cancer Hospital.
Dr. Sreedevi Warrier
Panelist – India
Dr. Sreedevi Warrier is a dedicated clinician, teacher, and mentor with a decade of experience. She is passionate about spreading the importance of Palliative Care across the country. Dr. Warrier holds a Master’s degree in Palliative Medicine from Cardiff University, Wales, where she also serves as an Honorary Tutor.
Dr. Warrier has been recognized with the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship and has spoken at numerous conferences. She is also a national faculty member for various training programs and an Associate Member at Palliative Care Works (PCW), UK.
Olivia Nguyen, MD, MM, CCMF(SP), FCMF, FRCPC, Palliative Medicine
Panelist – Canada
Olivia Nguyen works in palliative medicine at the CIUSSS Nord-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. She is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine at the University of Montreal and a Fellow of the Royal College in Palliative Medicine. She is also the President of the Quebec Society of Palliative Care Physicians. Olivia Nguyen is keenly interested in systemic improvements in palliative care through teaching the palliative approach and best practices, training, research, partnership, governance and policy changes, as well as cultural shifts.
Miss. Sarah Nyariki, Palliative Care Program Coordinator – AMPATH/Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital
Panelist – Kenya
Sarah Nyariki is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, a diploma in Community Health Nursing and Chronic Disease management and now the Palliative Care Program Coordinator at AMPATH-MTRH Eldoret Kenya.
Sarah has 4 years’ Work experience as General Practice Nurse and 8 years in research. Through passion and integrity, she has assumed diverse leadership roles, participated in research publications and achieved extensive work networks, strong interpersonal relationships, proved an effective team player.
As a Project ECHO Coordinator, She aims to use the Hub and Spoke Model to improve the quality of Palliative Care services across the globe.
Aparna Gupta, DNP, EMBA, FACHE, CPHQ, ANP-BC
Panelist – USA
Aparna Gupta is the Vice President of Quality at the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. She has over 20 years of health care leadership experience, including roles at UnitedHealth Group and Allegheny Health Network. A board-certified nurse practitioner, Gupta has expertise in quality improvement, health care operations, and complex disease management. Gupta is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a recognized speaker on healthcare quality topics. She has also served as President of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses Association.
Lesley Goodburn, Person with lived experience
Panelist – United Kingdom
For the past decade, Lesley has dedicated herself to improving end-of-life care following the heartbreaking death of her husband, Seth, from pancreatic cancer just 33 days after his diagnosis.
Lesley shared Seth’s story through a film, a play, and an educational resource with three main goals: to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer, to highlight the need for psychological and emotional support for people with late-stage diagnoses and short prognoses, and to improve end-of-life care. Additionally, Lesley has worked with the UK Commission to enhance grief and bereavement care.
Dr. José Pereira, MBChB, CCFP (PC), MSc, FCPC
Panelist – Spain
Dr. José Pereira is a palliative care physician and Professor of Palliative Care at the Faculty of Medicine and the Instituto Cultura y Sociedad at the University of Navarra, as well as at the ATLANTES Global Observatory of Palliative Care. He holds the position of Professor of Palliative Care in the Division of Palliative Care within the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University. As Scientific Advisor at Pallium Canada, he has led the development of Pallium Canada’s Learning Essential Approaches to Palliative Care (LEAP™) courses, the leading palliative care course in Canada. His expertise spans palliative care practice, education, research, and leadership in palliative care services.
Jeffrey B. Moat, CM
Moderator – Canada
Jeffrey is the Chief Executive Officer of Pallium Canada. Jeff provides oversight and direction to the organization, reinforcing Pallium’s role in delivering improvement initiatives that strengthen performance, empowering more people to embrace the palliative care approach and accelerating the integration of the palliative care approach in Canadian health and social systems.
