World Hospice and Palliative Care Day Special Lecture “Compassionate Communities: Together for Palliative Care”

This session was held on November 7, 2023.

The Palliative Care ECHO Project – in collaboration with the National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly (NICE) and the Institute for Life Course and Aging (ILCA) at the University of Toronto – is hosting the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day Special Lecture as a way to honour international leaders in the fields of hospice and palliative care and to provide a platform to spread awareness and knowledge.

The 2023 World Day is dedicated to Compassionate Communities. Dr. Joachim Cohen, Professor, End-of-Life Care Research Group, Ghent University and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium) is the distinguished speaker, focusing on the public health approach to palliative care. Characteristics of a compassionate city program – including Compassionate Communities – will be discussed alongside findings from research, amplifying the 2023 theme of the World Day: ‘Compassionate Communities – Together for Palliative Care.’

Presenters:

  • Joachim Cohen, PhD; Professor, Ghent University and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium)
  • Jeffrey Moat, CM, Chief Executive Officer, Pallium Canada
